Infrastructure Performance and Availability

Since 2009 I have spent the majority of my time counseling my customers, prospects and partners on something that is rather controversial.

You can buy less infrastructure, deploy it in the right places, while at the same time getting control over that infrastructure.

Why is this important to me? Because when I moved from Wireless LANs and into Storage and SAN infrastructure in 2003, I observed a few things which surprised me.

Now my observations may be unique, but I suspect that they are not:

1) Nearly every customer I had, while at a storage vendor, had a performance issue that affected the business at least once a quarter
2) Storage Admins, Backup Admins, and SAN and Infrastructure managers were some of the brightest people I met, and yet they all seemed to have the same common problem.
3) Virtualization was going to make things even worse

So I've decided to create this blog in order that I can post key learnings, collateral that has helped my customers, my team, and my highly valued channel partners.

And most of all, it allows me to share tips and tricks that I hear every day. And because I hear these things every day, I really needed to make sure customer information was kept sacred...no one wants their successes, or even worse, their failures, shared every day.

So I hope I will make a blog that you enjoy, and I welcome any and all feedback to it.
